Welcome to the 1.0 Release of StarNine's® Internet Publisher
Introduction
This CD contains all the tools you need to create a robust, fast information server for publishing information on the Internet and your local network. WebSTAR™ (formerly known as MacHTTP) turns your Macintosh into a powerful World Wide Web Server and ListSTAR™ supercharges your e-mail system into an Internet publishing tool, allowing you to sponsor listserver mailing list discussions and create automated email-on-demand systems for distributing any kind of information.
WebSTAR and ListSTAR provide the core information publishing services you need to create your Internet site. By integrating WebSTAR and ListSTAR, you can create powerful communications services for your users. Peter Lewis' FTPd is also included for FTP and Gopher file services.
All of the software contained on this release of the CD is shipping software. The copies of ListSTAR and WebSTAR on this CD are for evaluation use. To activate an evaluation copy of either product, you need to obtain a temporary serial number by contacting StarNine either via the Web http://www.starnine.com/ via electronic mail (keys@starnine.com), or by calling 1-800-525-2580.
If you purchased ListSTAR or WebSTAR, be sure to install the software from the floppy disks included in the box. This will ensure that you are using the latest shipping version. Also, use the serial number on the registration card to activate the software. We also recommend downloading a copy of Netscape Navigator to view HTML documents, such as the WebSTAR doc. See the WebSTAR folder for more information.
The Internet is a rapidly changing environment. Be sure to visit our Home Page (http://www.starnine.com/) frequently for the latest information on WebSTAR, ListSTAR and other StarNine products.
NOTE: Much of the documentation, as well as the WebMaster Macintosh book included on this CD is in Adobe Acrobat format. Use the "Install Acrobat Reader First!" installer to install Acrobat Reader on your hard disk.
Setting up an Internet Connection
To publish information on the Internet, your Macintosh must have a full-fledged connection to the Internet . Information about configuring MacTCP and setting up your Internet connection is available in several places on this CD. The WebSTAR documentation contains basic information about configuring MacTCP and describes the basic components of an Internet connection. A detailed discussion about different options for Internet connections is included in the on-line version of the WebMaster Macintosh book by Bob Levitus and Jeff Evans included in the WebSTAR folder.
